The World Of Dance: Proposing A Video Series That Aims To Showcase It

If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that dance makes up a big pieces of who I am. But I am also very aware that this is considered to be pretty niche to many. Because of this, I have come across so many people who just don’t seem to “get it”. And while they aren’t required to understand my interests, if often find that it’s not because they don’t care, it’s because they simply just don’t understand.

In light of this, I have proposed a video series/YouTube channel that aims to highlight dance related research for both dancers and non-dancers alike.

Whether you are a dancer or not, it is hard to deny that competitive and artistic dance have made their way into the hearts and minds of many during these past few years. Through creating a series of short videos (3-5 minutes each) with this in mind, people can learn more about the many moving pieces that go into creating the visuals and pieces that they (and I) know and love. Hopefully I can help people truly “get” what it’s all about.

The Main Goal

The primary goal of this channel and video series is to provide insight into various aspects of the dance world and help audiences further understand what it takes to train, perform, and enjoy dance and its many nuances.

The Research Starts Right Away

Before I could go any further, the first step was to begin my preliminary research. This would give me the base knowledge I needed to successfully propose and plan my project out. And it all started with one question, “How do I write a project proposal?” I mean, it feels like a pretty daunting task. So, I took to researching and reviewing examples and found that pinpointing my goals, vision, deliverables, and timeframe would set me on the right path.

A Project is Only as Good as it’s Deliverables

What is a deliverable? A deliverable is a result, or output, of a project.

My project deliverables can be divvied up into three main categories:

  • Pre-Production
    • Research
    • Storyboard
    • Production Plan
    • Scripts
    • Filming Time/Location
  • Production
    • Test Footage
    • Filming
  • Post-Production
    • Editing
    • Graphics
    • Thumbnails
    • Video Titles and Descriptions
    • Channel Creation
    • Audience Test
    • Launch Final Videos

So while I have everything divvied up and ready to go, there is another large piece of my project puzzle: video topics. With my research sending me in all different possible directions surrounding dance, I’ve compiled a more concise list of what individual videos could focus upon.

Some topics include:

  • Choreographer Highlights
  • UDA Dance
  • What it Means to “Go Pro”
  • Breaking Goes To the Olympics
  • Benefits of Dance for Everyone

Once the final topics are solidified and planned out, each video will be filmed on a Canon Rebel T7 and iPhone 13. After all the footage is taken, I will then use Adobe Suite to edit and bring each video to life.

The Timeline

This project spans a total of 6 weeks.

Week 1: Proposal and Research

Week 2: Project Management and Additional Research

Week 3: Pre-Production

Week 4: Production

Weeks 5-6: Post-Production and Video Finalization

To Sum it Up

With the growing interest in dance, this video series has the opportunity to unite people from all over by providing well-researched and engaging videos on various dance topics. Overall, helping people “get” what dance can be all about.
